The Nike Air DT Max 96 is the third installment in Deion Sanders’ line of Nike kicks, originally releasing in 1996 (the DT stands for “Diamond Turf”). These have been retro’d a few times now although I believe the Varsity Red colorway is the newest.
These are kind of an odd shoe, and definitely not for everyone. I copped them because they are really unique and eye-catching. The design going up the side reminds me of flames, and of course red and white is always a great combination on sneakers. However, like many Nike retros, these are fairly slept on.
The shoes feature white leather with red nubuck uppers and ship with red laces. As far as material quality, there’s nothing special here. This is typical of Nike Sportswear releases, particularly from this time. The nubuck is going to be a little sandpapery and the leather will be a bit thin, however the construction is at least solid on this particular release.
With respect to comfort, these are fairly decent for a retro Nike Sportswear sneaker from this time. Of course they feel a bit big on feet, given the old school nature of the sneaker. But that’s part of the charm for these! The shoe is after all from a time when the sneakers were bigger than life!
